## The Role of ATP
![[Pasted image 20250309131025.png|325]]
ATP: adenosine tri-phosphate
ADP: Adenosine di-phosphate
AMP: Adenosine mono-phosphate
In a single day, an average-sized person *uses about 90% of their weight in ATP* but *only has about 50 grams of ATP available* at any given time
**Phosphorylation**
Any enzyme that can phosphorylate a target molecule is a **kinase**
- The phosphate comes from an existing molecule known as the substrate
There are two types of phosphorylation:
1. Substrate-Level Phosphorylation (SLP)
2. Oxidative Phosphorylation (OP)
Phosphate transfer potential
