## Cytokinesis
**Septation** is the process of forming a cross wall between two daughter cells during the process of cell division
### In Bacteria
One discovered mechanism of septation is the MinCDE system:
- The MinC, MinD, and MinE proteins oscillate between opposite ends of the cell by travelling across the membrane.
- They are most commonly found in the polar ends of the cell, forming a gradient with the lowest concentration being in the cell’s center
- MinCDE inhibits FtsZ, because the center of the cell has the lowest concentration of MinCDE, FtsZ is successfully able to form at that location

The process of forming a cross wall between two daughter cells during the bacterial cell cycle is called **septation**.
#### Chromosome Partitioning

One example of chromosome partioning can be seen in the **ParA/ParB proteins** of *C. Crescentus*
- **ParB** first binds to the **ParS** site (located within the DNA, near the origin of replication) forming the partioning complex
- This complex forms at two opposing points within the chromosome
- One end attached to a **stalk protein** (which can be used to attach to solid surfaces)
- The other attaches to the polymeric **ParA** complex which begins elongated and is shortened over the course of replicated, pulling the replicated DNA with it in the process
This same system is used in almost 70% of 400 sequenced bacterial genomes, however alternative systems have been discovered.
