### Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium The genetic definition of evolution is simply "a change to a population's **gene pool**". A "gene pool" --- #### Requirements Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium is maintained so long as: 1. All individuals survive and reproduce equally (i.e. no fitness, thus no natural selection). 2. Mating is random. 3. There is no immigration or emigration (no gene flow). 4. The population is large (no meaningful impact from genetic drift). > This also allows for **sampling without replacement**, as members of the population can be picked out and will leave a negligible impact on the average of the remaining population. 5. There is no mutation. **Anything that causes a violation of these conditions constitutes a mechanism for evolutionary change.** ![[hardy weign 1.png|300]] ![[hard weign 2.png|300]]
